Šárka

Opera by Fibich (libretto by A Schulzová). It was first produced at the Czech Theatre in Prague, on 28 December 1897. The plot concerns the Bohemian Šarka, who leads women against the oppressive Duke Přemsyl and his men; but she falls in love with the warrior Ctirad, eventually betraying her cause to save him. Guilty, she commits suicide.

Opera by Janáček (libretto by Julius Zeyer). Composed 1887–88 and revised 1918 and 1925, its scoring was completed by Osvald Chlubna. It was first produced in Brno, Moravia, on 11 November 1925. It was first performed in the UK as a concert at Edinburgh in 1993.
