Židek, Ivo (1926– )

Czech tenor. He sang Werther at Ostrava, in 1944 and from 1948 sang at the National Theatre, Prague. He appeared as a guest performer at Vienna, from 1956 and visited Edinburgh with the Prague company, in 1964 and 1970 (for the first British performance of Janáček's Mr Brouček). He was well known as Smetana's Jeník and Janáček's Gregor, and also appeared in operas by Verdi, Bizet, and Mozart.
