‘Aus Italien’

Symphony by Richard Strauss, Op. 16, composed 1885–86 during and after a visit to Italy in March 1887. The four movements are entitled On the Campagna, The Ruins of Rome, On the Shore of Sorrento, and Neapolitan Folk Life; the last contains a quotation of Luigi Denza's Funiculì funiculà, which Strauss took for a folksong.
