‘Burning Fiery Furnace, The’

Church parable by Benjamin Britten (libretto by W Plomer), first produced in Orford Church, Suffolk, England, on 9 June 1966. In honour of visiting Israelites, the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar organizes a feast, but throws the guests into a furnace when they do not worship his idols. Saved by an angel, they do not burn.
