Panzerfaust

In World War II, German recoilless launcher designed for anti-tank use.

It consisted of a bomb made of a shaped charge of about 130 mm/5 in diameter mounted on a stem with four light steel fins.

These fins wrapped around the stem which was then inserted into a light steel tube with a propelling charge. The soldier held it under his arm, took aim, and fired. The charge blew the bomb forward and also exhausted from the rear of the tube, so that there was no recoil force. It was highly effective against any tank, but had a limited range of 30–100 m (100–330 ft), depending upon the model.
