27 March 1188Holy Roman Empire, Saxony, Bavaria, Germany [Crusades (1095–1272)]The Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa takes the Cross (agrees to go on crusade); by his order Henry the Lion, the dispossessed Duke of Saxony and Bavaria, goes back into exile.
