1546 BC

c. 1546 BCEgypt [wars]The Egyptian king Amenhotep I acceeds to the throne (1546 BC–1526 BC) and changes to an expansionist foreign policy, in direct contrast to the former policy of restoring or maintaining the country's boundaries. In the south he begins to subdue and colonize Nubia (‘Kush’), while in the north he reaches the upper Euphrates and possibly penetrates the lands of the Hittites and the Mitanni in Asia Minor. He also initiates the practice of being buried in a rock-cut tomb rather than a pyramid.
