Yom Kippur War

The surprise attack on Israel in October 1973 by Egypt and Syria; see Arab-Israeli Wars; Israel, the Fourth Arab–Israeli War; and Egypt, the Fourth Arab–Israeli War. It is named after the Jewish national holiday on which it began, the holiest day of the Jewish year.

October 6 is the anniversary of the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, which led to the liberation of Arab land from Israeli occupation, Rafik Khoury, editor-in-chief of the local daily AL ANWAR, said Tuesday.
Following the 1973 Arab-Israeli war and the Arab oil embargo, the US called for a regional peace conference in Geneva only after former secretary of state Henry Kissinger realised that the US would no longer be able to detach the Palestinian question and its unlimited support for Israel from securing Arab oil supplies.
Israeli President Shimon Peres on Sunday warned Iran against considering a surprise attack, at a ceremony commemorating the 35th anniversary of the 1973 Arab-Israeli war.
