2331 BCSumeria [wars]Sargon of Akkad, a man of humble origin, usurps the throne of the north Sumerian city of Kish and sweeps south, defeating King Lugal-zaggisi of Umma, to make himself master of all Sumeria. He conquers the Elamite city of Susa and may even have conquered Cyprus. He builds a new capital near Kish, which he calls Akkad (the exact site of which is still unknown).
