VRML

In computing, method of displaying three-dimensional images on a Web page. VRML, which functions as a counterpart to HTML, is a platform-independent language that creates a virtual reality scene which users can ‘walk’ through and follow links much like a conventional Web page.

In some contexts, VRML can replace conventional computer interfaces with their icons, menus, files, and folders. It is possible to use VRML to create, for example, a virtual museum with all the elements of a real museum, including corridors, display cases, and multimedia demonstrations. Other possibilities include a Web market containing stalls with goods that can be ‘handled’ using a mouse, or a virtual library of ‘books’ that can be taken off ‘shelves’.
