Empire State Building

Empire State Building, New York City. Built in 1930, the Empire State Building was the highest building in the world until 1972. The building is situated in midtown Manhattan. In this picture, its 68 m/223 ft television antenna mast, added in 1950, is hidden from view.

Landmark building in New York, New York. It is 443 m/1,454 ft high with 102 floors, and was the highest building in the world until 1970, when it was superseded by the World Trade Center, New York (which was destroyed in 2001 by a terrorist attack). It was built in 1930 at a cost of over US$40,000,000.

Designed in the Art Deco style by the architectural firm Shreve, Lamb and Harmon, the building contains office space and facilities for tourists such as restaurants and observatories.
