42nd Street

Hollywood screen musical of 1933. The imperious leading lady of a Broadway musical sprains her ankle and gives the understudy (Ruby Keeler) her opportunity for stardom. Busby Berkeley's lavish, kaleidoscopic dance numbers are the highlight of the film. It was directed by Lloyd Bacon (1890–1955) and based on a novel by US writer Bradford Ropes.
