It is ironic that Western historians call the period encompassing 600 AD to 1000 AD as the "Dark Ages" even whilst the Andalusian Civilisation (North African empire based in Europe--extending to the Iberian Peninsula, including Spain, Portugal, Italy, portions of France, etc)--held the largest and richest cities in Europe, populated by students who came to learn at the great universities in Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Seville and other cities.
