ABA form

In musical analysis, a compositional structure comprising three basic parts, in which the first section (A) is followed by a second, often contrasting section (B), before the original section (A) returns in the same or a varied state. It is a simple kind of ternary form.

In ABA form, A and B sections end with two- or three-measure "mini-cadenzas.
The Arensky Waltz is composed in ABA form and contains more advanced harmonies and opportunities for mature musical expression and execution.
Kyrie is an ABA form with multiple divisi in the A sections coupled with an exciting, bravura middle section, which offers highly rhythmic writing in the tenor and bass parts against legato, chant-like singing in the soprano and alto parts.
