ack

Special type of message sent between computers on a network. When a computer has received data correctly from another it sends back an ack message to prompt the sending machine to transmit its next piece of data. If data isn't received properly, then a negative acknowledgement message, or a nak, is sent, which prompts the sending computer to try and send the data again.
