Accelerated Graphics Port

Dedicated port that links the graphics controller on a personal computer directly to the computer's memory, instead of data having to be fetched via the expansion bus. AGP can handle at least twice the throughput of a standard PCI bus. The AGP was developed by Intel, and AGP support was added to later versions of Microsoft Windows 95. As of 2006 the newer and faster PCI Express (PCIe) graphics interface was expected to replace AGP within the next few years.
