Antiope
| In Greek mythology, mother of the twins Amphion and Zethus, whose father was Zeus. She was imprisoned by the tyrant Lycus and his wife Dirce, and freed by her sons, who punished Dirce by tying her to a bull. The scene is represented in a classical marble group, the Farnese Bull, rediscovered in the Renaissance. |
