ATAPI

In computing, enhancement to integrated drive electronics (IDE) that allows easier installation and support of CD-ROM drives and other devices. Part of the Enhanced IDE standard introduced by hard disk manufacturer Western Digital in 1994, ATAPI uses a standard software device driver and does away with the need for proprietary interfaces.
