Abbado, Marcello (1926– )

Italian composer and pianist, brother of the conductor Claudio Abbado. He studied with the composer Giorgio Ghedini at the Milan Conservatory, and from 1951 held teaching posts in Venice, Piacenza, Pesaro, and Milan; he was director of the Milan Conservatory from 1972.

Works

Orchestral

Costruziono for five small orchestras (1964); concerto for violin, piano, and two chamber orchestras (1967), concerto for piano, quartet, and orchestra (1969).

Vocal

Ciapo, cantata (1945).

Chamber

three string quartets (1947, 1953, 1969).
