Abbās II (1874–1944)

Last khedive (viceroy) of Egypt, 1892–1914. On the outbreak of war between Britain and Turkey in 1914, he sided with Turkey and was deposed following the establishment of a British protectorate over Egypt.

Abbās II succeeded his father, Tewfik. At first he tried to overthrow British rule; he abolished and reduced taxes, and disagreed with Cromer and Kitchener before throwing in his lot with Turkey in 1914. He was deposed on 19 December 1914, and the khedivate passed, with the title of sultan, to Hussein Kamil Pasha, his uncle (reigned 1914–17).

Abbās II (1632–1667)

Shah of Persia 1642–67, the son of Safi I and the great-grandson of Abbās I. He received various embassies from Europe and recaptured Kandahar 1648, which had been lost by his predecessor to the Mogul emperors.
