Abbas Mirza

Abbās Mīrzā (1789-1833)

Prince of Persia, second son of Shah Fath Ali. He commanded the Persian army in the Russian wars of 1804-13 and 1826-28. He also commanded the Persian forces in the war with Turkey, concluded by the Peace of Erzurum 1823. In 1828 he made an expedition to Khorasan to restore Persian supremacy, and died besieging Herat 1833.

Abbās Mīrzā was an enlightened prince and sought to reorganize his army on European lines with the help of European officers.
