The detachment's primary
mission is to patrol southeastern Iraq--primarily Khawr Abd Allah and
Khawr As Sabiyah, the waterways that separate Iraq from Iran and Iraq
from Kuwait--and to fly maritime security operation patrols in the
northern Arabian Gulf to protect vital infrastructure.
"The students are very disappointed because they paid a heavy price
for supporting Khatami," said student leader Abd Allah Momeni,
"but in return they got nothing. Annan had said that UNIKOM, which continued
to monitor the demilitarized zone and the Khawr Abd Allah, had
