Abdel Meguid, Ahmed Esmat (1923- )

Egyptian politician and diplomat. After the return of the League of Arab States to Cairo he was appointed its secretary general in May 1991.

Educated in law, he represented his country as permanent delegate to the United Nations 1972-82, and was minister of foreign affairs 1984-91 and deputy prime minister 1985-91.
