Abd al-Hamid I (1725–1789)

Sultan of Turkey 1774–89. During his reign Turkey was occupied in a struggle with Russia and Austria. The former wrested from him control of the Crimea 1774, and the latter inflicted on him a crushing defeat at the battle of Ochakov 1788.
