Abendroth, Hermann (1883–1956)

German conductor. He conducted the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra during the Nazi regime, leading a production of Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Bayreuth 1943–44. After World War II he held posts in East Berlin and Leipzig.

He studied with Felix Mottl in Munich and conducted the Lübeck Opera 1907–11. He was music director of the Gurzenich Orchestra 1918–34, and guest conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra 1927–37.
