Abney, William de Wiveleslie (1843-1920)

English pioneer in infra-red photography and spectroscopy who wrote important works on the photography of stars and colour vision.

Abney was born in Derby, and was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He was president of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1893-95. His works include Treatise on Photography, 1875, and Researches in Colour Vision, 1913.
