Albert, Abraham Adrian (1905–1972)

US mathematician. Known primarily for his work with associative and nonassociative algebras and Riemann matrices, Albert was a member of the National Academy of Science. He chaired the University of Chicago Mathematics Department from 1958 to 1962, fought for government funding of mathematics in the 1950s and 1960s, and was vice-president of the International Mathematical Union in 1971.
