Abraham Lincoln Birthplace| US National Historic Site 5 km/3 mi south of the town of Hodgenville in central Kentucky, situated on the Nolin River, 72 km/45 mi south of Louisville; population (1990) 2,700. In December 1808, the Lincolns moved from Elizabethtown to Sinking Springs Farm, south of Hodgens Mill (now Hodgenville); Abraham was born here on 12 February 1809. The family moved two years later to Knob Creek Farm, 11 km/7 mi east of Hodgenville. A title dispute caused them to move again, to Spencer County, Indiana, in 1816. Lincoln Homestead State Park, in Frederickstown, 68 km/42 mi southwest of Lexington, has a replica of the 1782 cabin in which Thomas Lincoln, Abraham's father, was raised. On the same site is Berry Cabin, original home of his mother, Nancy Hanks. |
