Abu Musa

Small island in the Gulf; population (1999 est) 600. Formerly owned by the ruler of Sharjah, it was forcibly occupied by Iran in 1971.

On the political front, the GCC condemned Israel's brutal aggression against unarmed Palestinians, reaffirmed the sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates over the three Gulf islands of Abu Musa and the Gr eater and Lesser Tunbs currently occupied by Iran, and called on Iraq "to prove its peaceful intentions toward its neighbors.
The Iranian conflict with the United Arab Emirates over Abu Musa and the Tunbs remains unresolved.
Iran and the United Arab Emirates were urged to settle peacefully the problem concerning the three islands of Tunb al-Sughra and Abu Musa.
