Abulcasis (or Albucasis or Abū al-Qāsim) (936-1013)

Spanish Arab physician and surgeon. His encyclopedia of medicine and surgery, Tasrīf completed about AD 1000, greatly influenced medieval medicine. Its surgical section was the first independent work on the subject and the first to contain illustrations of surgical instruments.
