One of a group of 90 related species of tropical or semitropical ornamental plants. The Indian mallow or velvet leaf (Abutilon theophrastus) is one of the more common; it has bell-shaped yellow flowers and is the source of a jutelike fibre. Many of the species are pollinated by hummingbirds. (Genus Abutilon, family Malvaceae.)
