paracetamol

Analgesic, particularly effective for musculoskeletal pain. It is as effective as aspirin in reducing fever, and less irritating to the stomach, but has little anti-inflammatory action. An overdose can cause severe, often irreversible or even fatal, liver and kidney damage.

Technically, it is acetaminophenol, a white crystalline powder CH3CONHC6H4OH. It is sold under numerous trademarks (for example, Tylenol).
