Aceraceae

Family of shrubs and trees with leaves, often palmately lobed, in opposite pairs. The flowers are usually yellow or greenish, and are followed by winged fruits, each consisting of a pair of samaras which separate when ripe and are dispersed by the wind. There are two genera: Acer is widespread in the northern temperate zone and Dipteronia is native to China.
