acetylacetone

Colourless pungent liquid, boiling point 194°C/381.2°F. This diketone is unusual in that it exists to the extent of about 85% as the enol form, the enol form being considerably stabilized by hydrogen bonding between the enol OH proton and the carbonyl oxygen. Acetylacetone is an important reagent for the preparation of chelate compounds with a wide range of metals.

Abstract: A rubber-based product, having at least one buffer zone to trap oxygen in order to protect a sensitive zone from oxidation, comprising a composition containing iron (III) acetylacetonate or an iron (III) salt of a carboxylic acid, used in a tire to impart improved rolling resistance.
Crosslinking SBC with aluminum acetylacetonate raises the softening point from 194 F to around 302 F.
Curing of these blends can be catalyzed with octoates, naphthenates or acetylacetonates of copper, zinc, cobalt and manganese.
