Achille in Sciro

Opera by Antonio Caldara (libretto by Pietro Metastasio), first produced at the Vienna Burgtheater, Austria, on 13 February 1739. The story describes how Achilles is delayed by love on his way to Troy.

There are also settings with the same title by Niccolò Jommelli (Vienna, 1749), Johann Hasse (Naples, 1759), Johann Gottlieb Naumann (Palermo, 1767), Giovanni Paisiello (St Petersburg, 1778), and Gaetano Pugnani (Turin, 1785).
