Ackermann, Rudolph (1768-1834)

German printer and engraver. He introduced steering linkage for vehicles, still the basis of modern car steering, into Britain when he took out the English patent on behalf of its inventor, his friend German coach-builder George Lenkensperger.

Ackermann settled in Britain and ran a print shop and drawing academy in London. He also invented a method of waterproofing paper and cloth, and introduced fine art lithographed annuals into Britain.
