Acosta, (Bertram Blanchard) Bert (1895-1954)

US aviator and aeronautical engineer. One of the best-known civil aviators in the 1920s, he helped to establish the first transcontinental mail service in North America in 1920. Acosta also set a number of early speed and endurance records and was a member of the crew of the America that made the sixth nonstop transatlantic flight in June 1927.

Acosta flew for the Loyalists in the Spanish Civil War in 1936.
