Acta Diurna

Title of an official journal published each day in Rome from 59 BC to AD 330. It was the nearest approach in ancient times to the modern newspaper. It contained court news and official decrees as well as birth, marriage, and death announcements. Written on a whitewashed board, or album, the Acta Diurna were posted in some prominent place. After removal they were stored with other public archives.
