Adair County

County in southwest Iowa; area 1,476 sq km/570 sq mi; population (1998 est) 8,060, of which 99.7% are white. Its administrative headquarters is the town of Greenfield. The county is mostly agricultural, with corn and soybeans the main crops. Political leader Henry A Wallace was born here in 1888.

The present monument, which was erected about 1907 by Frank Adair, the first Adair County sheriff, bears the following inscription that contains an error of about eleven years regarding the missionary's life span: DUNCAN O'BRYANT Died Aug.
