Adam, Theo (1926– )

German bass-baritone and producer. He made his debut at Dresden in 1949 and sang at Berlin and Bayreuth from 1952. In 1967 he appeared at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London as Wotan, and in 1969 sang Sachs at the New York Metropolitan Opera House. He sang the title roles in Cerha's Baal at Salzburg in 1981 and in Berio's Un re in ascolto at Salzburg in 1984. Other roles include Wozzeck, Ochs and Don Giovanni. He produced Graun's Cesare e Cleopatra for the 250th anniversary of the Berlin Staatsoper (1992).
