Adams County

County in north-central Colorado; area 3,199 sq km/1,235 sq mi; population (1990) 265,000. It is traversed in the west by the South Platte River. The town of Brighton serves as its administrative headquarters. Its southwest corner is occupied by Denver suburbs, including Northglenn, Thornton, Westminster, Federal Heights, Commerce City, and Western Hills. The Rocky Mountain Arsenal is also in the southwest, near Denver. The balance of the county is primarily farm and ranchland, producing sugar beets, beans, and livestock.
