Addyston Pipe and Steel Co. v. US

Addyston Pipe and Steel Co. v. US

US Supreme Court decision of 1899 that granted the federal government certain regulatory powers over private businesses. The case resulted from a number of convictions of pipe-manufacturing firms for price fixing, a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act. The pipe companies argued that manufacturing was not under federal regulation. The Court ruled that price fixing was a clear impingement on interstate commerce and was therefore under federal regulatory jurisdiction.
