Adelanto

Town in San Bernardino County, south California; population (1990) 8,500. It is situated in the Victor Valley, 50 km/31 mi north of San Bernardino, in a desert region irrigated for agriculture by the Mojave River. Adelanto lies and at the outer edge of the Los Angeles commuting area. It was the site of George Air Force Base, a fighter facility closed in 1992.
