Using Indivumed's highly standardized biobank, the researchers
found elevated levels of mutated adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene
in the plasma of patients with advanced stage colorectal cancers. Decreased expression
of the adenomatous polyposis coli (Apc) gene and/or its homologs was
also observed after exposure to PB and PTU. Eighty-five percent of colorectal cancers
result from chromosomal instability, with acquired mutations
progressively accumulating in the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) and
p53 tumor suppressor genes, and in the k-ras oncogene. |
