Adler, Larry

Adler, Larry (Lawrence) (1914–2001)

US harmonica virtuoso, who settled in the UK in 1949. He won a competition aged 13, and after travelled widely, with command performances before King George VI, King Gustav of Sweden, and Presidents Roosevelt and Truman. He learned to read music in 1940 and studied with Toch. Many composers have written for him, including Milhaud and Vaughan Williams (Romanza in D flat).
