Adrano

Town in Catania province, eastern Sicily, at the southwest foot of Mount Etna, 40 km/25 mi northwest of Catania; population (1991) 32,700. Oranges and olives are grown locally. Adrano has fine churches, a 12th-century castle, and a 15th–17th-century monastery. The town was formerly (until 1929) known as Adernò.
