Aertzen (or Aartsen), Pieter (c. 1509–1575)

Dutch painter. He excelled in interiors and homely scenes, though also producing historical and religious works. His Maidservant (Musée Royaux des Beaux-Arts, Brussels) is an original and early example of the Netherlandish domestic genre. He was a pupil of Allaert Claesz., and worked in Amsterdam and also in Antwerp 1535–56.
