Afghan hound

Breed of fast hunting dog resembling the saluki in build, though slightly smaller.

It was first introduced to the West by British army officers serving on India's North-West Frontier along the Afghanistan border in the late 19th century. Rock carvings of 2220 BC show the dog in the same form as it is now known. The Afghan hound hunts by sight. It is about 70 cm/27.5 in tall and has a long, silky coat that may be black, grey, or a wide range of beige or tawny colours.
