agaric

Any of a group of fungi (see fungus) of typical mushroom shape. Agarics include the field mushroom Agaricus campestris and the cultivated edible mushroom A. brunnesiens. Closely related is the often poisonous Amanita, which includes the fly agaric A. muscaria. (Genus Agaricus, family Agaricaceae.)
