aloes wood

The heartwood of Aquilaria ovata and Aquilaria agallocha, found in tropical Asia. The innermost wood of these trees yields a fragrant resinous substance which is used in the East as a perfume and as a medicine.

It retains its fragrance for years, and was once more valuable than gold. It is thought to be the aloes mentioned in the Bible.
